FSA SOP Basmati Quant RM201

Description

Standard operating procedure for the quantitative analysis of adulteration of basmati rice with the varieties sherbati, mugad sugandha, pak 386 or superfine using the Agilent 2100 bionalyser and a microsatellite pcr marker.

Scope

The method is designed to quantify the level of non-permitted varieties (including Sherbati, Mugad Sugandha, PAK 386 or Superfine) in rice grain samples using a microsatellite PCR marker. This method may be applied to sample of uncooked or parboiled rice grains. However, it is recommended that the rice used to prepare the quantitative standards matches the samples as closely as possible, i.e. white milled rice for white milled samples, brown rice for brown samples and parboiled rice for parboiled samples.
The test can not detect the following non-permitted varieties: Yamini, Pusa 1121, Basmati 2000, Shaheen Basmati, Pusa Sugandha and Supra.
